“Two days after Frankie’s first birthday, we noticed that his eyes were really, really yellow. He wouldn’t breastfeed which was really unusual. His stomach was also getting larger.

We went to the Royal Columbian Hospital but they couldn’t figure out what was going on. We spent 2 weeks at the BC Children’s Hospital while they did every test imaginable to try and figure out what was going on... "

Part 1/4:

“I was an early childhood educator working at a daycare with children from 3-5. It was my passion, and it still is. I love children because they are so innocent, open, and sweet. They also say the funniest things that just make you laugh and realize you don’t need to take life so seriously....I loved being a mom. It was everything that I wanted to be in life.”

"...I went to Ryerson University in the early 90’s and the first person I met was at the airport on the way to school. Actually, we are now married.

I was sitting at the café and her dad took a table near me. I told him I was going to Ryerson. He told me that his daughter was going there as well and introduced me to her. I was on standby so I didn’t get on the flight until the next day whereas she left that day. We just left it at, “I’ll see you at school!”

After I arrived at my residence, she was the first person I saw on campus, standing right outside. Our friendship grew from there."

"I was bullied at some of my previous workplaces for about 5 years. I didn’t know it was bullying right away, but it made me feel completely alone, like as if I was the only one experiencing it. However, I learned after I left that I wasn’t the only one. I wish I had the support while I was there. I went through severe depression.

It was an extremely difficult time and when I finally got out, I was too scared to commit to a full-time job, fearing that the same thing would happen again. Because I only wanted to work part-time and casually, I drove myself into poverty..."
